The Northern Michigan University volleyball team was defeated by Wayne State University in four sets (3-1) on Friday (Sept. 28) at Vandament Arena. NMU is now 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Warriors defeated the Wildcats in the first two sets (25-18, 25-16). NMU bounced back with a set three victory (25-19) after the break. WSU
finished the fourth set (25-14) strong to take the match.

“They’re stacked,” NMU coach Dominic Yoder said about Wayne State. “They have really good athletes. They block well and do things the right way.
Unfortunately, we just didn’t have the chemistry tonight.”

Junior Lina Lopes had a match-high 15 kills on the evening. She also had seven digs and a service ace. Junior Sarah Hamilton had 12 digs and a solo
block. Junior Kalli Herron also had double digit kills with 11. Senior Andree Ring added three kills, a service ace and a block assist.

Junior setter Kellisha Harley had 42 assists to setup of the offense. Freshman Alex Berger led the defense with 10 digs. Senior Jasmine Calhoun
had three block assists.

“Lina, Sarah and Kellisha really did a nice job tonight,” said Yoder. “Andree and Kalli played very good off the bench. We just need to find
that swagger again when it comes to defense.”

Wayne State remained perfect in the conference at 6-0 and are 11-3 overall. The Warriors had 11 team blocks. Essance Jackson-Jones led the
team with five block assists. Candice Ottey had 12 kills while Kristen Bulkiewicz added 11.

Northern hosts the University of Findlay on Saturday at 4 p.m. from Vandament Arena to wrap up its three-match home stand.

“I expect the team to be upset up tonight’s match and come back tomorrow with more energy and focus,” Yoder added.
