Michigan Tech scored twice in the second half to post a 2-0 win over Northern Michigan in a non-conference match Monday (Sept. 10). The win was the first over NMU in program history.

“It feels great to beat NMU,” said head coach Michelle Jacob. “Our girls came out and did a great job. Northern is a good team, and we rose to the challenge.”

The Huskies dominated offensive play finishing with a 21-7 advantage in shots.

Lindsay Van Rooy broke the stalemate with a goal in the 54th minute. Janelle Riedl made a through pass to Van Rooy who shot it past NMU goalie Shelby Conrad for her third goal of the season.

Amanda Whiting scored Tech’s second goal after putting in a rebound off a shot by Lexi Herrewig that hit the cross bar.

Jenna Phelps made five saves in her second win for the Huskies.

Tech will open GLIAC this Friday (Sept. 14th) at Lake Erie.
