MARQUETTE -- Former Detroit Lions' center Eric Beverly was the keynote speaker at Friday's U.P. Football All-Star banquet at the University Center on the NMU campus.
Beverly played ten seasons in the NFL, seven with Detroit and three with Atlanta.
Many people might not know Beverly was a tight end at Miami University before getting switched to a lineman. He was an undrafted free agent after college.
Beverly says life is like a dash on a tombstone.
"The dash is important because it's your life, it's your legacy, it's the journey," says Beverly. "It's what people remember you for. At the end of this, all you want to make sure is you're remembered as a great person who gave back."
The All-Star game introductions begin at 3 p.m. eastern, 2 p.m. central time, Saturday at the Superior Dome as the East meets the West. The West trying to break a three game losing streak.
Beverly blocked for Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders for several seasons.
