HARRIS (AP) -- It was a very exciting time in Harris last summer when the LPGA Futures Tour came to town for the Island Resort Championship. It was even better when Marquette's Carley Saint-Onge was added to the field as a local exception.
The tour is heading back to the Sweet Grass Golf Club, only now it's the Symetra Tour 'Road to the LPGA'.
Saint-Onge will be more prepared this summer after spending the last year playing Division I golf at Michigan State.
The Spartans recently won their second consecutive Big Ten Women's Championship last weekend.
After watching her teammates raise yet another banner, Saint-Onge said she's learned plenty in East Lansing already. "You really have to put in the time and effort. It's not just going to come to you," said Saint-Onge. "You have to work at it. Just the work ethic, watching them practice everyday is what I have to do. The team is very competitive. I have a lot to prove and a lot to work on to get that travelling spot, but I know I can do it. I play with those girls every single day and I learned little things from them. I just have to work my way up the ladder."
This year's Island Resort Championship will be June 29 through July 1.
Saint-Onge is the reigning Upper Peninsula Ladies Golf Association champion and a four-time Michigan Upper Peninsula Division I medalist at Marquette Senior High School.
