HILLSDALE -- (Courtesy of MTU Athletics) Sophomore Austin Armga scored a season-high 24 points but it wasn’t enough for the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team who dropped an 84-62 decision at Hillsdale in the semifinals of the GLIAC Tournament. Armga shot 7-of-16 from the field and was 8-of-10 from the free throw line for the Huskies.
Tech trailed by nine at halftime, 36-27, but Hillsdale’s lead would grow over to as many as 26 points in the second half.
The Chargers shot a game-high 60-percent (18-30) over the final 20 minutes, including five 3-pointers. The Huskies shot 48-percent (11-23) with just one 3-pointer over the same span.
“We played well the first half. Hillsdale got hot at the end of the first half and it continued in the second,” said Luke. “We played hard, but we gave up too many easy baskets.”
Hillsdale finished with an 11-4 advantage in 3-pointers, but Tech finished with a 16-7 advantage in free throws.
Junior Ali Haidar, who was named GLIAC Player of the Year, finished with 21 points and four rebounds for the Huskies.
Brad Guinane led the Chargers with a game-high 30 points shooting 11-of-15 from the field, including six of eight from behind the arc.
Tyler Gerber tallied 13 of HC’s 22 assists in the game, and Tim Dezelski chipped in 14 points off the bench for Hillsdale.
Tech’s season is now complete with a 16-12 record.
