The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team shot 65-percent in the second half to hand Northwood a 66-62 GLIAC loss Thursday (Jan. 26) night at the Bennett Center.

"Tonight was another typical grind it out win," said head coach Kevin Luke. "I thought we played much better in the second half. We rebounded better and took care of the basketball."

The Timberwolves held a slim 27-25 lead at halftime, and the Huskies would earn its first lead of the second half thanks to a jumper by sophomore Austin Armga at 12:36.

Northwood’s Bobby Lewis would tie the score at 50 with a three point play with 6:20 remaining.

Freshman Ben Stelzer made a pair of free throws to give the Huskies a five point lead with 41 seconds remaining. NU cut the Tech lead to two following a 3-pointer by Darvin Ham.

Sophomore Alex Culy made a pair of free throws for the Huskies, but Andrew VanDierenDonck answered with a lay-up to keep NU within two, 62-60.

Culy made two free throws on Tech’s next possession. Armga stole the ball at the other end and sank both free throws before Cameron Joyce made a lay-up for Northwood as time expired.

Junior Ali Haidar scored a game-high 21 points, and senior Mike Hojnacki chipped in 15. Culy finished with 10 points shooting 3-3 from the floor and 4-4 from the free throw line.

Bobby Lewis finished with a team-high 18 points for Northwood.

Tech will face Hillsdale Saturday (Jan. 28).
