In a lopsided game from start to finish, the Northern Michigan men’s basketball team fell 89-41 to No. 20 Hillsdale on Thursday (Jan. 26).

With the loss, NMU falls to 8-10 on the season and 4-7 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Hillsdale improves to 16-2 overall and 10-1 in the conference.

NMU held Hillsdale in check through the first 12 minutes of play, trailing by just one at 20-19 with a layup from sophomore Matthew Craggs with 8:09 left on the clock. From there, the Chargers went on a 17-0 run for the next six minutes before taking a 46-25 lead into the half.

Hillsdale opened the final 20 minutes of play on an 8-0 before junior forward TJ Cameron sank a layup, ending a nearly six minute scoring drought. The Chargers continued to build upon their lead, outscoring the ‘Cats 43-16 in the second half as all 12 ‘Cats saw action tonight.

NMU was led by Cameron, who scored 11 points and contributed two assists.

Senior forward Rashano McRae also netted eight points and three boards.

The Chargers were led by Tyler Gerber with 16 points.

NMU shot only 30.4 percent 14-for-46 from the field and 39.1 percent 9-for-23 from beyond the arc.

The Chargers outrebounded the ‘Cats 35-25 and outscored NMU’s bench 33-19.

NMU concludes its two-game road trip against Northwood on Saturday (Jan. 28). Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
