The weather outside was frigid and the No. 19 Michigan Tech women’s basketball team waited too long to warm up dropping a heart breaking 68-65 decision to Ferris State Thursday.

The loss snapped Tech’s 37-game home winning streak that dated back to a 53-47 loss to Northern Michigan on Jan. 2, 2010.

The Huskies (11-4, 6-3) made a run late in the first half that was capped by a 3-pointer by Michelle Gaedke to give the Huskies an eight point lead, their biggest of the game. Ferris State answered with a 3-pointer of their own by Nikki Arner but Tech took a 33-28 lead into halftime.

Ferris used strong shooting in the second half, to the tune of 58-percent, to take a 14-point lead, 62-48, with six minutes remaining.

Junior Sam Hoyt would start the comeback for Tech with a 3-pointer. Senior Lynn Giesler followed up with a lay-up for the Huskies, but Sarah Deshone would answer with a lay-up for the Bulldogs.

Hoyt drained another 3-pointer and freshman Michelle Gaedke made a pair of free throws following a defensive stop by the Huskies.

Christina Branch missed a pair of free throws and Hoyt made her third straight 3-pointer to close the deficit to three, 64-61. Hoyt followed up with a pair of free throws after a turnover by FSU.

The Bulldogs would get a lay-up by Tricia Principe, but it was once again Hoyt who would answer for the Huskies with a lay-up with 30-seconds remaining.

Nikki Arneripe missed a pair of crucial free throws with 22 seconds remaining for the Bulldogs.

Senior Lindsey Lindstrom missed a tough jumper in the post for the Huskies with 10 seconds remaining. The Huskies would get one more possession down three, 68-65, after Tricia Principe converted two free throws.

Tech’s comeback was stalled after its pass along the baseline hit the backboard. The Huskies got one more chance but could not get a shot from an inbound play with 0.4 seconds remaining.

"We put ourselves in a tough situation down 14 points in the second half," said Kim Cameron. "We battled back however. Sam was a real leader. Every opportunity is important, and we made too many mistakes."

Sam Hoyt finished with 26 points, including 13 over the final six minutes, thanks to shooting 9-of-14 from the field, 6-of-8 from 3-point, and making both of her free throws. She finished with a season-tying five assists.

Lindsey Lindstrom added 10 points and six rebounds for Tech. Tricia Principe scored a season-high 25 points for the Bulldogs.

FSU (11-4, 8-1) finished with a 39-24 advantage in rebounds.

Tech will host Grand Valley State Saturday (Jan. 21).
