MARQUETTE -- (Courtesy MTU Athletics) The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team completed the season sweep of Northern Michigan with a 70-64 GLIAC win Thursday (Jan. 5) in Marquette, Mich.
“Tonight was a good road win,” said head coach Kevin Luke. “We struggled shooting the ball tonight, but anytime you can beat NMU at NMU it is a good win. We are still in first place in the conference.”
Tech improves to 7-6 overall and 5-1 in the league. Northern falls to 5-7 and 2-4.
Junior Ali Haidar tallied his eighth straight double-double with game-highs in points (27) and rebounds (13). The Windsor, Ont., native shot just 6-of-16 from the field but was 15-of-16 from the free throw line.
Tech dominated the free throw line shooting 22-of-25 compared to 13-of-17 by the Wildcats.
The first half was a back and forth affair featuring six ties and eight lead changes. Tech held a slim 29-27 lead at halftime.
The Huskies out-scored the Wildcats 41-37 over the final 20 minutes for the win.
Senior Mike Hojnacki added 15 points for the Huskies, and sophomore Alex Culy chipped in 13.
