Latest news, weather, high school sports for Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

ESCANABA (AP) -- The Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds is hosting a series of snowmobile races with $101,200 in prize money Jan. 14-15.

The event will take place on a 3/8-mile oval track at the grounds in Escanaba.

The first U.P. Ice Masters 300 is sponsored by the Midwest Ice Racing Association, TLR Cup Championship Ice Racing Series, and the United States Snowmobile Association Prostar Oval Ice Racing Series.

The Daily Press reports (http://bit.ly/u4r3pF ) that 40 to 60 teams are expected to compete in the six races.
