TOWSON, MD -- (Courtesy of MTU Athletics) Michigan Tech football player Jacob Clark (Lansing, Mich./Central Catholic) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The junior defensive tackle becomes the team’s first Academic All-American since Keith White in 2008.
Clark started 10 games for a Michigan Tech defense that led the GLIAC in total defense (286 yards allowed per game) and scoring defense (17.7 points allowed per game). The junior defensive tackle recorded 42 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks on the season, helping the Huskies to a 7-4 record. He also had two fumble recoveries and a blocked kick in 2011. In the classroom, Clark owns a 3.96 grade point average in civil engineering.
Clark is the ninth Academic All-America First Team selection in school history.
In addition to the Academic All-America honor, Clark was recently selected by the GLIAC as a Commissioner’s Award recipient for academic and athletic accomplishment. The Commissioner’s Awards are presented after the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons to six male and six female student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play.
