HOUGHTON -- (Courtesy of MTU Athletics) Four players scored in double figures for the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team in a 72-56 win over Tiffin in league play at the SDC Gymnasium Saturday (Dec. 10) night.
“It’s awesome balance when you have four players in double figures,” said head coach Kevin Luke. “Our rebounding was good which led to this balance. We have put a bigger emphases on rebounding.”
The Huskies (5-3, 3-0) finished with a 42-33 advantage in rebounds over the Dragons (4-6, 0-4).
Junior Ali Haidar finished with a double-double for the third straight game thanks to 20 points and 11 rebounds. The Windsor, Ont., native finished 7-of-11 from the field and added four assists, one block and one steal.
Sophomore Alex Culy scored 15 points including a game-high four 3-pointers.
Senior Mike Hojnacki added 11 points, and sophomore Austin Armga chipped in 10 off the bench.
The two teams were tied at 35 at the break but Tech’s offense stepped up in the second half to out score the Dragons 37-21.
The Huskies shot 52-percent (13-25) over the final 20 minutes and held the Dragons to just 32-percent from the floor. Tech also finished with a 10-4 advantage in 3-point field goals in the game.
Joe Graessle scored a game-high 23 points for TU, including 20 in the first half.
“I am happy to be 3-0 in the league. We are in a good position in the conference as we hit the road,” said Luke about his team playing its first of five conference road games of the season at Ferris State on Dec. 18.
Tech will play at NCAA Div. I member Green Bay Tuesday (Dec. 13).
