MARQUETTE -- (Courtesy of NMU Athletics) Senior forward Tyler Gron scored his second goal of the game with under seven minutes left in the third to bring No. 20 Northern Michigan to within a goal of the Michigan State Spartans. The 'Cats pulled senior goaltender Reid Ellingson but weren't able to score the equalizer before Lee Reimer put the nail in the coffin with an empty-net goal in a 4-2 Spartans win.

Friday (Nov. 18) night's loss was the first of the season for the 'Cats in the friendly confines of the Berry Events Center. NMU is now 4-5-3 overall and 1-5-3-2 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

"I was happy with the effort tonight," said NMU coach Walt Kyle. "As a coach you have to sit back and evaluate quality of play and at the end of the night I thought we had enough chances to win."

Michigan State's (7-4-0, 4-3-0 CCHA) Torey Krug scored his fourth of the season 2:37 into the game when he found himself alone with Ellingson on a breakaway. Brent Darnell and Brock Shelgren picked up the assists.
