The Northern Michigan soccer team was unable to find the back of the net this afternoon (Oct. 14), falling 5-0 at home against No. 3 Grand Valley State.

With the loss, the ‘Cats drop to 7-4-3 overall and 5-4-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Lakes improve to 12-0-2 overall and 11-0 in the GLIAC.

The Lakers got on the board early, with a goal from the right side by Kayla Addison just nine minutes into the contest.

Jessica Trost put the Lakers up by two at the 27 minute mark with an assist from Kayla Addison and Erin Mruz.

GVSU held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.

The combination of Erin Mruz and Kayla Addison found the back of the net again just five minutes into the second half.

The Lakers Kayla Addison scored her second goal of the afternoon at the 51 minute mark of the second half.

GVSU capped the scoring in the 64th minute with an unassisted goal by Juane Odendaal.

GVSU tallied eight shots on net while NMU was unable to connect. The Lakers also held the advantage on corner kicks 5-3.

Kayla Addison led the Lakers offensively, with an impressive two goal and two assist performance.

NMU junior goalkeeper Jessica Baker stopped three of eight shots she faced during the afternoon. Chelsea Parise went uncontested during the match.

NMU closes out the weekend at home against Ferris State at noon on Sunday (Oct. 16).
