HOUGHTON -- The Michigan Tech hockey team is off to a 2-0 start, but Mel Pearson's team might need to step up its level of play.
The Huskies open WCHA action at home this weekend against 18th ranked Wisconsin. Michigan Tech and Wisconsin have met 158 times since the series began in 1927.
The Badgers own a 99-48-9 record over the Huskies including a 35-21-4 mark in Houghton. Tech will try to break an 11-game losing skid to the Badgers this weekend.
Pearson would like to end the streak of course, but he's happy to see how much better his team will perform this weekend.
"We've had a good week of practice," said Pearson. "We're looking forward to starting WCHA play this weekend. Obviously we have a big challenge facing the Wisconsin Badgers, but our team has made some big strides over the week coming off the sweep of American International. We're looking forward to starting conference play."
Faceoff both nights is 7:07 at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Wisconsin split a two game series against Northern Michigan last weekend in Madison.
