Tevun Sellers buried a goal late in the overtime period to give Northern Michigan its fifth win of the season, defeating Saginaw Valley State (2-1) on Friday (Sept. 23) afternoon. For the freshman Sellers, it was her third goal of the season.

NMU is now 5-1-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Saginaw Valley State (2-4-1, 1-4-1 GLIAC) opened the scoring five minutes into the first half when Lindsey Arnett buried the lone goal for the Cardinals.

Amelia Johnson evened the score 29 minutes in when she headed a pass from Chelsea Lyons for her second goal of the season. Lyons picked up her second assist of the season.

Both goalkeepers stopped seven shots. Jessica Baker has started all eight games between the pipes for the ‘Cats.

Sellers subbed in at the beginning of the overtime frame and buried her game-winning goal 10 minutes into the extra session.

The Wildcats travel up the road to Northwood on Sunday (Sept. 25) to take on the Timberwolves.
