Coach Anderson: 'Zach Anderson has dominated physically, statistically'
MARQUETTE -- The NMU Football Wildcats have a good opportunity to raise their record to 2-0 in the conference and 3-0 overall when they host Northwood Saturday afternoon at the Superior Dome.
The Wildcats received a few honorable mention votes in Division II polls this week, and they hope to get more.
Part of the success goes to current GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week Zach Anderson of Sault Ste. Marie.
"As a defense, we have to be very disciplined. We have to stop the dive," says Wildcat defensive end Zach Anderson. "They run the option, triple option about 90 percent of the time. We just have to run our assignments. As long as we do our job, Coach Randy Awrey puts us in the right spots, we'll stop them easily."
"Zach's becoming a dominant player at the Division II level," according to NMU Head Coach Bernie Anderson. "And that could give him a shot at the next level. We're not going to put him there yet, but I know this much: he's had two games where he's dominated statistically, physically. He has the numbers, the height, size, weight, strength and speed. He's becoming an impact player that a lot of people are going to have to look out for."
"We just need to be consistent passing and running the ball, taking our shots down field," says NMU running back John Privitelli. "Just stick to our game plan, and we should be good."
Kickoff Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
