The women’s soccer coaches of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selected Northern Michigan second in the North Division in its preseason poll. The Wildcats received one first-place vote and 18 points. Defending National Champion Grand Valley was picked first with five first-place votes and 25 points.

Also in the North Division, Ferris State was picked third with 16 points and Saginaw Valley was fourth with 14 points. Michigan Tech was picked fifth in its second year of soccer with 11 points and Northwood (6) rounded out the North in sixth.

Tiffin was the top pick in the South Division after finished second in the conference a season ago. The Dragons received two first-place votes and had 16 points. Ohio Dominican earned a first-place vote in the school’s second year of GLIAC action and received 12 points to put them three points ahead of Ashland and Findlay. The Eagles and Oilers tied for third and received nine points each. Lake Erie rounded out the South in fifth-place with four points.

The 11 GLIAC coaches voted in the polls but weren’t able to vote for their own team.

NMU kicks off the season on Thursday, Sept. 1 at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. The first home games are set for Sept. 3 and 4 against the University of Minnesota-Crookston and Bemidji State University.
