MARQUETTE -- (Courtesy of NMU Athletics)  Head Northern Michigan University volleyball coach Dominic Yoder announces the addition of a top transfer defender for the 2011 season.

Kalin Zimmerman, from Kishwaukee College, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the Wildcats.

Zimmerman is a 5-8 libero/defensive specialist. She played two years at Kishwaukee and was on the regional all-tournament team as a freshman and team captain as a sophomore. Her team’s record was 83-6 and won two Arrowhead Conference Championships in her two years with the Kougars.

“Kalin is an outstanding passer in serve reception and has a tremendous mind for floor defense,” Yoder said. “Her speed, agility and willingness to be an outstanding leader and communicator will have an immediate impact on the 2011 Wildcat back row.”

Zimmerman graduated from N.E.W. Lutheran High School in Green Bay, Wis. in 2009 and lettered four times in volleyball.

In high school, she was a three-time first team all-conference selection, a two-time all-state honorable mention, conference player of the year, team captain and led her team to four conference championships, two regional championships, a sectional championship and into the state tournament two times. She was also all-conference and a team captain in basketball and soccer.

Zimmerman will join her teammate at Kishwaukee, Jasmine Calhoun, and freshmen Kaitlyn Hoffman and Kaprice Seever as the newcomers for Yoder and the Wildcats.
