Only one weekend of TORC racing in Bark River this summer
BARK RIVER -- A new feature at the off-road races in Bark River this summer will be Rally Car racing.
The Bark River International Raceway is one of the sites for the inaugural U.S. Rally Championship. It will be held the same weekend as the TORC Off Road Racing Series in Bark River.
"We are very excited about adding Rallycross to our schedule of events," said Richard Ault, race director with the Bark River Lions Club. The Lions Club operates the Bark River International Raceway and hosts the off-road races. "This will be a new type of racing that will be fun to watch on our short-course track."
RallyCar is partnering with The Off Road Championship (TORC) to add the races at three events. The first race will be at Bark River August 13 and 14. The two other events will be in Crandon, Wis., and at the Chicagoland Speedway.
Rallycross is an extreme action-motorsport using World Rally Championship type race cars competing on a closed, short course similar to TORC's Off Road Truck race courses. With strong roots coming from the Nordic countries such as Netherlands, Belgium and France, the FIA European Rallycross Championship is the largest of its kind.
There will only be one weekend of racing this year at Bark River. Last year, there were two race weekends in Bark River. The August races this year will highlight some of the best off-road drivers in the country including many who have raced before at Bark River.
"Concentrating the races into one weekend will create a much bigger event," said Roger Charbonneau, raceway marketing director. "It will be a packed weekend of action that will bring in more racers and draw a much larger crowd. We are gearing up for a great weekend of racing."
This is the third year of the TORC Series. The August races at the Bark River International Raceway is one of eight weekends of racing in the series. The top races include Pro Light, Pro 2 and Pro 4 racers from around the country.
The Bark River Lions Club uses the funds raised at the event to support various charitable organizations in the Upper Peninsula including Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay and other youth organizations.
