NMU Women fifth at GLIAC Track Championships

Northern Michigan finished fifth at the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Northwood University. The Wildcats picked up 62.5 points.

Bailey Franklin is the GLIAC champion in the triple jump with a jump of 38-7.5. She also placed sixth in the high jump.

Catherine Angeli broke her 100 and 200 records this weekend. She broke her 100 dash record (12.10) on Thursday night in the preliminary round of the 100 and broke her 200 dash record (24.81) in the finals on Friday. Angeli placed second in both events.

Brooke Granquist (4th) and Delaney Lovett (6th) also placed in the triple jump. Brittnee Balbierz finished eighth in the 100 meter dash.

The 4x100 relay team finished fourth. Samara White, Balbierz, Katy Lafayette and Angeli were the member of the squad. NMU’s other relay team finished eighth in the 4x400. Members of the relay team were Katrina Lamansky, Colby West, Sara Turschak and Sydney Shultz.

Melissa Christensen and Colby West finished 10th in the high jump and 400 hurdles, respectively.

Michigan Tech's Quinn Parnell posted the highest Huskies finish of the day with a fifth place finish in both the 100 (10.79) and 200 (22.11). Teammate Akeem Cason also qualified for the finals of the 100, finishing seventh (10.86).

The pair joined Ben Kalis and Tylor Rathsack in the 4x100-meter relay. The quartet ran the third fastest time in school history (42.69) and finished eighth.

Dylan Anderson posted the highest finish in the distance events with a seventh place showing in the 800-meter run in 1:55.16.

Molly Wiltzius posted the highest finish for the women placing ninth in the discus throw. Her toss of 131-9 is the third best in school history and the third best of her career.

Teammate Natalie Berryman finished 12th in the shot put with a mark of 36-4.

The men’s team finished 10th and the women finished 11th.

Grand Valley State's Aileen Lemanski (Florence) was third in the 400 dash.  She was part of a second place 400 relay team, and a winning 1,600 relay squad.

Lake Superior State's Jonathon Allen won the triple jump.  His teammate Hans Riedel captured the discus.
