ESCANABA -- Escanaba High School announced they will not be renewing the contract for Head Hockey Coach Charlie Elliott. Elliott had been the head of Escanaba hockey for the last two years and compiled a 31-20-1 record and led the team to the 2010 Regional Final.
The school sent out this press release today:
Every year the Athletics Director and High School Principal evaluate all of the athletic programs at Escanaba High School. After careful consideration of the Hockey Program over the past two years, it has been determined that a new direction is needed. While Charles Elliott's efforts are appreciated, his contract will not be renewed, and he is no longer the coach for the Escanaba High School Hockey Team."

On Friday, Charlie spoke with Jack Hall of Radio Results Network and had this to say on the firing, "I really feel this is a sad day for Eskymo hockey as a whole," said the former Michigan State hockey standout. "I couldn't be, quite frankly, more shocked to be let go. It's painful because myself and my coaching staff have really put our hearts and souls into this program and it's been just a great ride for two years.
"I was given nothing other than just some people said this and some people said that, but nothing was specific, no facts, no violations, no situations. They said they just wanted to go in a new direction."
Elliott went on to say he was asked to resign at a meeting Thursday at the school but refused. Escanaba had just five winning seasons in twenty years before Elliot arrived.
