VIENNA (AP) — Three skiers have been dropped from Austria's Alpine team for the upcoming Olympic season.
Christoph Gruber, Hannes Reichelt and Georg Streitberger were cut from the team and will not be replaced, as the men's team will be reduced from 16 to 13 skiers, the Austrian ski federation said Friday.
Gruber (five career World Cup victories), Reichelt (four) and Streitberger (one) had little success past season. The best result was Reichelt's third-place finish at a giant slalom in Alta Badia, Italy.
The federation has not changed the nine-member women's team for next season.
The team includes Renate Goetschl, who considered ending her career after a disappointing world championships in February, and Marlies Schild, who missed the entire 2008-09 season after breaking her lower left leg in a training crash prior to the season-opening races in Soelden, Austria.
