SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Owner Tom Hicks says he is looking for investors to purchase minority interests in two of his professional sports teams — baseball's Texas Rangers and hockey's Dallas Stars.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday at the Rangers' spring training site, Hicks said he is willing to let limited partners purchase up to 49 percent of each club, leaving him with a controlling interest. Hicks says he owns 95 percent of both teams.
One potential buyer is Nolan Ryan, who was hired as the Rangers' president in February 2008. Ryan confirmed Hicks has mentioned he would have the chance to purchase a stake in the baseball club.
Hicks, a 50-percent owner of Liverpool FC in the English Premier League, said he has sought potential buyers for the last four or five months.
