The Michigan Tech women's basketball team had three players score in double figures in a 70-57 GLIAC win over Northwood Thursday (Feb. 21).

"We knew Northwood was going to make runs," said head coach Kim Cameron. "We kept our composure to the end."

Neither team could create much separation in the first half with neither team leading by more than three points. The Huskies would hold a narrow one point lead, 24-23, at halftime.

Tech would never trail in the second half, thanks in part to a 12-0 run over a three minute stretch in the second half. Junior
Kelcey Traynoff opened the run with back-to-back 3-pointers. Senior Sam Hoyt followed up with a 3-pointer of her own and four consecutive free throws. Sophomore Emily Harrison capped the run with a field goal to extend the team's lead to 20.

Tech's lead would hit a game-high 20 points twice more before settling at 13 at the end of regulation.

"Kelcey started a big run, and we were able to build a lead that countered their second half runs," said Cameron.

Hoyt finished with a game-high 23 points, with a trio of 3-pointers, and made 6-of-7 free throws. She added seven assists and two steals.

Freshman
Kylie Moxley and sophomore Jillian Ritchie each finished with 11 points a piece.

Senior
Emma Veach pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with seven points and five assists.

The Huskies shot 84-percent (21-25) on the night from the free throw line, including 94-percent (15-16) in the second half. Tech also shot 58-percent (7-12) from behind the arc and held Northwood to 8-percent (1-12).

Tech finished with a 42-34 edge in rebounds.

Tech (17-7, 15-5) will host Lake Superior State Saturday (Feb. 23).
