Michigan runs past NMU Men's Basketball 83-47

The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team opened the 2012-13 season with an exhibition game at No. 5-ranked University of Michigan on Thursday (Nov. 1) from newly renovated Chrisler Center. The Wolverines jumped out of the gates, going on a 17-0 run to start the game, and defeated the Wildcats 83-47.

The Wildcats were led in scoring by freshman center Matt Iverson with 14 points in his first game in the Green and Gold. Also in double figures was junior forward Matt Craggs with 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting.

NMU was down 17 at halftime, 38-21. Iverson had seven first half points and Craggs had six. The Wolverines made six three-pointers in the first and were led by Glen Robinson III and Nik Stauskas with nine points each.

The ‘Cats finished the game, shooting 19-for-59 for 32 percent from the floor and 6-for-20 from the three-point line. NMU had 22 points in the paint and 27 points off the bench.

The Wolverines shot 43 percent from the floor on 27-of-63 and outrebounded NMU 50-32. U-M finished the game with 13 made three-pointers.

Stauskas had a game-high 17 to lead U-M. Albrecht added 16 while Robinson and Tim Hardaway Jr. each added 13. Jordan Morgan had 12 rebounds and nine points.

The ‘Cats wrap up the exhibition season on Nov. 9 at the University of Detroit. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from Callahan Hall.

Game Notes: The last time the two teams met was Nov. 14, 2009 when the Wolverines defeated the ‘Cats 97-50. Preseason All-American and last year’s Big Ten Freshman of the year Trey Burke didn’t play. Redshirt sophomore Jon Horford also didn’t dress.
