Michigan Tech head men’s basketball coach Kevin Luke has announced that two student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the team for the 2012-13 season.

Luke Heller, a 6-6, 215-pound forward, was a first team all-state selection and the Wisconsin Post Player of the Year at D.C. Everest High School. The Weston, Wis., native was a three-time first team Wisconsin Valley Conference selection and was the conference player of the year as a senior. Heller averaged 17.5 points and nine rebounds per game and was just the second player in school history to eclipse the 1,000 point mark with 1,365 points. He also earned all-state honorable mention honors as a sophomore and junior. Heller, the valedictorian at D.C. Everest, was also a member of the football team, National Honor Society and Key Club.

James Wezensky is a 6-9, 220-pound center from Clare, Mich. He earned first team all-state honors from the Detroit Free Press his senior season and first team all-conference accolades the past two seasons. He nearly averaged a double-double with 11.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per game for the Pioneers and is an excellent shot blocker averaging 5.5 per game. Wezensky was also a member of the football, golf and track and field teams, quiz bowl and National Honor Society.

“We are very excited that both of these young men have chosen Michigan Tech,” said head coach Kevin Luke. “Heller is a skilled versatile player and James is a big body to fill the post. Both of these men should be contributors to our program.”
