HOUGHTON -- (Courtesy of MTU Athletics) Michigan Tech assistant women’s basketball coach Sarah Stream has resigned her position to start her doctorate in physical therapy at the University of Wisconsin in May.

“Being a part of this Huskies program for the past eight years has meant so much to me and words can’t describe how fortunate I have been,” said Stream. “Getting the chance to coach at my alma mater was a great experience and I appreciate all the opportunities I have been given here.  I’m sad to be leaving, but excited for this next step in my life.”

Stream led the Huskies to three NCAA Elite Eight appearances (two as a player, one as an assistant coach) and an NCAA National Runner-Up finish in 2011.

A CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2009-10, Stream scored 1,464 points and reset the school record for assists with 459 as a Michigan Tech women’s basketball player. The four-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection started every one of her 126 games played and won 99 of those (78.7 percent). She served as team captain for three seasons and finished as the third-best career 3-point shooter (39.9 percent) in school history.

Stream, a 4.0 student, was the inaugural NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Elite 88 Award winner in 2010.

“Sarah has been a positive influence on this university and basketball program since she chose Michigan Tech eight years ago,” said head coach Kim Cameron. “As a player she helped raise the level of success, and as a coach she continued it. She represents everything that Michigan Tech is about and has been a perfect role model and teacher for the players. We are grateful for her years and wish her continued success at Wisconsin.”

The search for Stream’s replacement is underway.
