MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University's Chez Nous restaurant opened for the semester on Wednesday.

The restaurant has recently undergone some renovations and it has a new menu. Officials describe the new menu as "new American" with a new twist on familiar foods. Chez Nous is operated almost entirely by NMU's hospitality majors for a class.

The students rotate their positions so that everyone can learn different jobs, including serving and cooking. NMU senior Jeanette Merriam says that the whole experience can help her future career.

"It teaches the students to keep a level head, keep cool, don't panic because when you do, nothing good happens," said Merriam. "We also do our own dishes, so it definitely gives you an appreciation for when you do have a dishwasher and how many dishes you actually use when you make everything."

Chez Nous serves people by reservation only.  To reserve a table at Chez Nous, call (906) 227-1981. They are open from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays until April 18, for lunch only.
