MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University's Black Student Union hosted a soul food luncheon Sunday.

The "Taste the History" lunch is the last event in the BSU's series of events for Black History Month. This is a new event for the BSU. Dozens came to NMU's Jacobetti Complex to eat the food, and there was plenty of it to go around. The menu included baked and fried chicken, mashed potatoes, baked macaroni and cheese and more. Joe's Cakes in Marquette donated the desserts.

"Food tends to bring people together all the time, no matter what race, culture, or anything like that. This is a good way to let people taste our culture, so I'm excited about this event," said Liddia Wells, BSU's Co-President.

The university funded the event so that all money earned from ticket sales would go right back to the Black Student Union.
