Mushers still on the trail for Midnight Run and UP 200

ALGER COUNTY -- Mushers in the UP 200 and Midnight Run Sled Dog Races are still out on the trail at this hour, Saturday. The trail has been slow as teams came into Alger County. Snow falling overnight on the trail is bogging down mushers.

The Midnight Run mushers are less than a half hour from the finish line. Mike Bestgen from St. Cloud, Minnesota is in the lead. He’s been in the Midnight Run many times but has never taken first place.

The UP 200 sled dog teams are not expected to arrive in Grand Marais until one Saturday afternoon. Again, new snow on the trail has slowed down UP 200 mushers.
