MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Regional History Center just opened a new exhibit, showcasing naturbahn luge.

Luge is a sled which is ridden face up and feet first.  Steering is done with your legs and arms.

Naturbahn luge started in Europe in the 15th century, and it's been an active sport in Marquette County for over 30 years.  The museum curator says many professional athletes of this kind of luge have spent some time in Upper Michigan.

"We had the help of a lot of athletes and coaches and other people who brought in photographs and told their stories and brought in their artifacts," said Museum Curator, Jo DeYoung.

There are currently four Marquette residents competing in the sport professionally.

For those interested in giving it a try, Lucy Hill in Negaunee is the place to go.  It's the only naturbahn luge hill in the U.P.
