MARQUETTE -- The Old Savings Bank Building was bundled up with lights, from head to toe, to usher in a bright and shiny new year. Throngs of people packed Front Street, huddled together for warmth, waiting in anticipation for the Annual Ball Drop.

Families lined the streets with their kids piling on wherever they could for a better view. Some folks even lit up sparklers to help spread the holiday spirit.

Marquette Police were adamant about keeping alcohol off the streets and in the bars for the special occasion. Most residents were too cold to carry around any lewd libations, letting their drinks stay warm inside of the local establishments.

Marquette locals were just one of the many U.P. communities on hand for the festivities. Celeste Santi came back from school in East Lansing to see what all the fuss was about.

"This is my first time here. I'm from Iron Mountain, so we drove all the way up here because we thought this was going to be the best thing ever. It was so fun! I loved it. I've never seen anything so cute and charming," exclaimed Santi.

Hoards of well-wishers embraced their loved ones, relishing the opportunity to reflect on the year that was. The streets emptied out rather quickly afterward with most heading to warmer pastures to celebrate well into the night.

Now that the ball had been officially dropped on 2012, people began to look ahead to better and brighter 2013. There were resolutions, both big and small, with some reaching far across the country.

Last year, April Poglese hitchhiked all the way from Marquette to the Pacific Ocean. She doesn't really believe in resolutions, but she does have some wishes for the coming year.

"Hopefully I can move to Washington and make this a little more of a career. I'm for hire," said Poglese, laughingly.

One thing is for sure, only time will tell what lies ahead for all of us. From everyone at TV6, Happy New Year to you and yours.
