The Michigan Tech men's basketball team finished with a 41-25 rebounding advantage in a 69-51 win at UW-Parkside Saturday (Dec. 29). The contest was the final non-conference game of the season for the Huskies who improve to 8-2.

"I was happy with the way we played with a two week layoff," said head coach Kevin Luke. "We didn't loose much. Parkside really plays hard and is well coached. I am proud of beating this team on the road."

The Huskies led from start finishing in the contest thanks to strong shooting. Tech shot 58-percent (14-24) from the floor in the first and 52-percent (28-54) for the game. Tech was nearly automatic from the free throw line making eight of nine attempts.

The Black and Gold recorded assists on 20 of its 28 shots.

Senior Ali Haidar led all scorers with 26 points for the Huskies shooting 12-of-16 from the field.

After scoring a career-high 21 points at Tiffin, sophomore Phil Romback followed up with 17 points. He also recorded seven rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block.

Junior Austin Armga was the third player in double figures for the Huskies scoring 13.

Coach Luke also praised the defense play of Armga against Jeremy Saffold who finished with a game-high 18 points for UWP.

Tech's team defense excelled holding Parkside to 35-percent (19-55) from the field and only two 3-pointers.

The Huskies held the Rangers scoreless for more than four minutes to start the game and held a 37-26 lead at halftime. Tech out-scored Parkside 32-25 over the final 20 minutes. The Huskies scored 30 of their 69 points in the paint.

Junior Alex Culy tied his career-high with eight rebounds. He also had five points and four assists.
