ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP -- With some significant snow on the ground, snowmobilers are taking to the trails, and local businesses are noticing an increase in customers. Meyer Yamaha in Ishpeming Township has seen a large increase in their sales in recent weeks.
Employees report seeing many tourists, which are responsible for the majority of their snowmobile rentals. Over the course of a normal season, Meyer Yamaha regularly sees visitors from Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Lower Michigan.
For Tim Brand, a Meyer Yamaha employee, meeting people is the best part of the job.
"It makes the days go by fast and we get to meet a lot of great people from all over the place and people that return back to this area," said Brand. "That's probably our favorite part because we see people year after year, but we only see them during snowmobile season."
Brand expects the store to stay busy through the rest of the season.
