The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team dropped its second game of the weekend in Ohio to Malone University on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers took the 75-66 victory in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. The ‘Cats now drop to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the GLIAC on the season.

Malone (3-2; 1-1 GLIAC) took the lead right from out of the gates, and led the entire first half going into the half time with the 44-26 advantage. The ‘Cats scored the first eight points before the Pioneers got onto the board in the second half, but that would be the only scoring streak for NMU for the game.

TJ Cameron added 12 points with two three pointers, two field goals and two free throws. As a team, the ‘Cats shot 19-of-52 and 21-of31 from the charity stripe. In the rebound column, Craggs and sophomore forward Kendall Jackson had eight boards a piece.

For Malone, Isiah Elliott had 19 points on a pair of three pointers, three field goals and was 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Cory Veldhuizen was four points behind with 15, while Daniel Wise rounded out the double digits with 11. The Pioneers shot 29-of-65, and were 14-of-19 from the free throw line.

The ‘Cats will play its first GLIAC contests at home this weekend.
