MTU Tennis earns conference recognition

Michigan Tech's Kwang Suthijindawong (Bangkok, Thailand) was named 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year, and two other Huskies earned All-GLIAC honors it was announced this week.

 Natalia Lebedeva (Nakhodka, Russia) were both selected to the All-GLIAC First Team. Senior Chelsea Uganski (Whitehall, Mich.) was given All-GLIAC honorable mention.

Suthijindawong produced an undefeated singles season by winning all 14 her matches at No. 2 singles in straight sets. The Bangkok, Thailand, native never surrendered more than four games in any match. In doubles, the rookie was a combined 12-2. She partnered with two different players during the season and compiled a 2-1 record at No. 1 doubles and 10-1 slate at No. 2 doubles.

Lebedeva played all season at No. 1 singles, where she compiled a 15-2 mark. She also put together a 9-8 record at No. 1 doubles with partner
 Dunja Imran Al-Sous. Lebedeva was the only player to defeat Northwood's Susana Alcaraz, who was named GLIAC Player of the Year. The Huskies' top player has now collected All-GLIAC accolades each of her three seasons at Tech.

Uganski finished her final GLIAC season with a 7-10 singles record. Most of her matches came at No. 5 singles, where she was 6-8. Uganski posted a 7-7 doubles record with three different partners throughout the season.

Michigan Tech finished its fall campaign with a 7-10 overall record and 4-10 mark in league matches. The Huskies will resume intercollegiate play in the spring.
