NMU Men’s Basketball Falls in Final Exhibition Game

The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team played its final exhibition game of the season in Detroit on Friday (Nov. 9). The Wildcats were defeated 88-53 by the University of Detroit Mercy from Calihan Hall.

The Titans are an NCAA Division I team from the Horizon league and led the game from beginning to end, leading by as many as 35 points in the final minute. The ‘Cats trailed 44-23 at the half, and would get with only a 22 point margin the entire second half.

NMU was led by senior forward TJ Cameron with 20 points and eight rebounds. Cameron made three field goals from long range and was 3-for-3 from the charity stripe. Freshman guard Stephen Pelkofer finished with nine points on 3-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc. Junior center Scooter Johnson added eight points and eight rebounds. NMU shot 33 percent from the floor on 18-of-54 and made 8-of-13 from three-point territory.

For the Titans, Doug Anderson had 25 points, while Ray McCallum (22) Juwan Howard, Jr. (12) and P.J. Boutte (10) scored in the double figures. Anderson had a game-high nine rebounds. The Titans outrebounded the ‘Cats 40-36 and shot 48 percent from the floor.

The ‘Cats tip-off the regular season next Saturday (Nov. 10) against Finlandia at 1 p.m. from the Berry Events Center.
