ISHPEMING -- It's a sad day for the skiing community.  A Suicide Ski Hill legend, Clarence "Coy" Hill has passed away.

Hill started skiing at the age of 10 and turned into one of the best American skiers of his time.

In 1952 Hill won the US Class "A" championship in Salisbury, Connecticut while setting a new hill record of 203 feet. In 1953, Hill jumped 327 feet at the Kulm's Ski Flying Hill in Austria and was an alternate on the 1956 US Olympic Team.

After retiring from the sport, the Ishpeming native spent countless hours grooming the ski hills and working with young jumpers at the Ishpeming Ski Club.

He was elected to the National Ski Hall of Fame in 1974 and died at the age 85.
