An Upper Peninsula native will be enshrined into the American Ski Jumping Hall of Fame this weekend in Red Wing, Minnesota.
Iron Mountain's Therese Altomelli-Olsen received skis at the age of four and started jumping in the backyard to see if she could be as good as her older brothers. She won several meets despite no formal coaching. Her best jump at Pine Mountain was 90 meters.
A trophy is given in her honor to the best female ski jumper in the Central Division each year.
Two other women will be enshrined Sunday, Dorothy Graves and Karla Kech.
