MARQUETTE -- Wednesday was the first day high school basketball players can sign national letters of intent, announcing their plans for college basketball.

Marquette Senior High School had three players sign on the dotted line with Division II schools.

ESPN 970 Radio and Fox Motors of Marquette held a ceremony for Tyler Geary, Erik Powers, and Joe Simon.  Powers will go to Minnesota-Duluth next year, while Simon and Geary both chose Lake Superior State.

The decision for Simon and Geary was pretty easy.  For Powers, a little more work was required.

"I visited a couple schools, didn't feel perfect at them," says Erik Powers, Minnesota-Duluth recruit.  "When I visited UMD, I felt pretty good.  It was a gut feeling I guess, but running through all my options in my head, it was the best decision for me."

"It wasn't that hard of a decision at all," says Tyler Geary, LSSU recruit.  "They offered so early, first offer.  I just went with it three days after the offer was placed on the table."

"They offered me a full-ride scholarship this summer," added Joe Simon, the other LSSU recruit.  "Also Tyler Geary committed there before I even made my decision.  That also put a big effect on my decision."

Simon should be the favorite to earn U.P. Class ABC Player of the Year honors.  Marquette opens the season against Petoskey in the Petoskey Invitational, December 12.
