HOUGHTON -- The Copper Country Humane Society received over $2,100 from Econo Foods in Houghton to help with the upkeep of their facility. Econo Foods has a program where customers can give their receipts to any non-profit organization and the store will donate one percent of the receipt totals to the organization.
The humane society has a yearly budget of about $200,000. They say the money will go toward fixing up a dog pen area outside once the weather warms up.
The society says it's grateful for all the support from the community.
"It's really difficult to find the appropriate words for what it means. It just does so much for all of us. Again, it's because of the loyalty of our donors," said Copper Country Humane Society Board Member, Robin Stimec.
The Copper Country Humane Society is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter.
