Bids have been placed on it

PERKINS --

The Delta County 911 Authority has determined that a 120-foot radio tower is no longer of use to the local townships, so it's now up for sale. It's located in the Baldwin Township cemetery, just south of Perkins on M-35.

Bids for the deconstruction of the tower have been put out. The last date to submit a bid to the Delta County Sheriff is December 1.

The sheriff says the tower is a liability, and he wants it taken down before spring. The tower itself is in good condition; it’s usable for other cell phone towers, for example. Sheriff Ballweg says hopefully cell phone tower users or cell phone tower companies will place a bid on the tower and use it for other purposes.

The tower was used by local fire departments and ambulance services. All of the equipment was removed a couple of years ago to another tower site in Delta County. This spring, the 911 Authority discussed the tower with various public safety officials in Delta County and decided that there would never be a public safety need or use for the tower at that location.
