MARQUETTE -- Kids at the Lake Superior Village Youth Center in Marquette made bandanas to help local cancer patients. The youth center provides after school activities and homework help for children who live at Lake Superior Village. Monday, they made tie-dyed bandanas for patients at Marquette General's Cancer Treatment Center. The idea for the activity came from a doctor and cancer survivor.

"Ultimately, not only are they purposeful in helping people keep their heads warm and bringing a bright spot to someone's day, but I'm sure that the kids who are making them will see them out in the community and know that they're making a positive difference in someone's day," said Dr. Melanie Purres, organizer.

The supplies were donated by the Walmart store in Marquette Township. Once the bandanas have had a chance to dry, they'll be brought to Marquette General for patients to wear.
