MARQUETTE -- Dozens of kids flocked to the Peter White Public Library in Marquette on Sunday to give their teddy bears a medical check-up.
Kids brought their stuffed animals to five tables, to make sure they had clean teeth and good blood pressure. Other tables focused on x-rays and surgery. This is a new event organized by the library and Marquette General Hospital's Women's and Children's Center. MGH staff and NMU medical students manned each table.
The check up came with an important message for the kids.
"The purpose is to be more comfortable with medical personnel and medical equipment, to help them to not be afraid when they're put into a medical situation and help them stay healthy," said Dr. Jennifer Dehlin, a family physician at Marquette General Hospital.
MGH and the library staff hope to make this an annual event.
