ESCANABA -- Veterans from Upper Michigan will be flying out of the Delta County Airport Thursday morning for the third U.P. Honor Flight. The 76 veterans and their guardians got together for a meet and greet Wednesday night.

There was a lot of excitement at the Peninsula Bay Inn as vets registered and got their shirts, jackets and a dinner.

U.P. Honor Flight organizers worked with the community to raise about $92,000 for the trip to see the Washington, DC war memorials.  The trip is free for the veterans.

A police escort will bring the vets from the Inn to the airport at 4:30 a.m.  Officials are asking the public to help welcome the vets home when they return to the airport Thursday night.

The doors open at 8 p.m. and the plane will land at 9:30 p.m.
