Volunteers for Bay Cliff Health Camp are selling pasties to benefit cancer stricken staff member

MARQUETTE -- Volunteers in Marquette are holding a pasty benefit fundraiser for a cancer stricken staff member at Bay Cliff Health Camp.

Fifty-four-year-old Monte Heacox of Grand Marais has aggressive breast and bone cancer. Heacox is a dedicated seasonal staff member of many years at Bay Cliff who is without health insurance. Volunteers have been selling pasties at four dollars apiece to help him pay for his medical treatments. The pasties are made by Bay Cliff, but the ingredients have all been donated. As of Wednesday, the volunteers have sold more than 1400 pasties.

"I just really want people to buy as many pasties as they can so we can really help Mr. Monte. He's a really deserving soul," said volunteer Mary Ruman.

Pasties will be sold outside the Bay Cliff office on Washington and Fourth Streets in Marquette through Friday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. You can buy pasties on site, but it is best to preorder by calling (906) 345-9314.
