ESCANABA -- Have you wanted to grow a garden but lack the space? Perhaps a community garden might be the option for you.

In Escanaba, you can rent a 30-by-30 plot of city-owned land and plant flowers, fruits, or vegetables. The community garden is across from the airport and is run by the MSU Extension.

Miriam Smith lives in town and doesn't have the space to grow her own vegetables. That's why she has come back to plant at her community garden plot for four years now.

"Just being outside, it's just great, and I can pedal out here in 15 minutes and just spend the time out here in the sun," said Smith. "And then I can freeze a lot of it also and give some away."

There's a limit of two plots per household. There is a little over a month left to rent a plot and grow your own garden.
