With high pressure dominating the weather in the upper Great Lakes region, conditions should be very pleasant, which couldn't be better for the thousands of Ore to Shore competitors.
Saturday's temperatures will be a little below average, mainly in the low 70s. Conditions will be breezy out of the north and may keep it a bit cooler near Lake Superior, but abundant sunshine will help it feel a little warmer.
The winds out of the north will once again make for dangerous conditions on the shores of Lake Superior. The National Weather Service has a map of the dangerous shores to avoid.
Saturday night, winds will calm down and take a more westerly turn and skies will remain clear. This will enhance radiational cooling and make low temperatures very chilly in some areas. It will likely fall into the 40s in the western interior. Otherwise most locations should still remain in the 50s, like near the lakes.
Sunday, there will be a few more clouds, but skies should still be mostly sunny. Winds will be light, but as high presure moves eastward, winds will pick up out of the south. That means that highs will be a little warmer in the mid to high 70s.
Sunday night will be mild with lows in the 50s. Skies will cloud up a bit more and a chance for rain enters from the west late overnight into Monday.
Much of the upcoming week will see more cooler than average temperatures with occasional chances for rain.
With clear skies Saturday night, look up! The Perseid meteor shower peaks this weekend, and it's an active one. Sunday night should see even more, but skies will be cloudier. Here's some more information. For more, you can find me on Facebook.
