DICKINSON COUNTY -- Thursday, Aug. 9 - UPDATE:

The victim is identified as 59-year-old Mark Fackler from Mundelein, Illinois.

The owner of Northwood’s Adventures reported a male and female were thrown from a raft after striking a large rock in the rapids Tuesday around 2 p.m. The female made her way out, but the male was trapped by the current under a rock and never surfaced.

Rescue operations were started by law enforcement, fire department and neighboring rafting guides. They rescued the man when the water flow reduced at approximately 4 p.m. where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body of a missing rafter has been found in the Menominee River along the Michigan-Wisconsin border.

According to the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department, a group was rafting on Piers Gorge when the raft tipped over Tuesday afternoon. The rafters were on a trip with Northwoods Adventures out of Vulcan.

The body of the missing man was found late Tuesday afternoon. The name and hometown of the 59-year-old victim has not been released, but officials say he was visiting the area.
